Iowa One Call: Ensuring Safe Digging in Iowa Iowa One Call is a vital service dedicated to preventing damage to underground utilities during excavation projects. Our mission is to ensure the safety of all Iowans by providing a simple and efficient system for locating and marking underground facilities before any digging begins. Our history dates back to 1980, when we were established by Northwestern Bell (now CenturyLink) and Iowa Illinois Gas & Electric (now MidAmerican Energy Co.) as a voluntary service to protect their utility systems. Since 1993, Iowa One Call has become a mandatory service for all owners and operators of underground facilities in Iowa, with over 1,400 members currently participating. We provide a single point of contact for excavators, homeowners, and anyone planning to disturb the earth. Our service is free and easy to use, and it's the law in Iowa. Simply call 811 or submit a ticket online to request the locating and marking of underground facilities. Iowa One Call is not a utility or a locating service. We do not own any facilities and do not locate underground facilities ourselves. Our role is to process locate requests and transmit them to our member companies, who are responsible for locating and marking their own facilities. We process over 540,000 tickets and coordinate more than 2.7 million locate requests annually, ensuring the safety of countless excavation projects across Iowa.

We are proud to feature two of the few rotating trucks on tracks in the mid-west. They provide low ground pressure (7psi!) off-road trucking to service wet or sandy soils. They have rubber tracks which allow operation on concrete or asphalt, including bike trails. They are useful in confined spaces, on levees, in backyards, on golf courses, or anywhere turf damage is a concern. We can operate in wet waterways or silted in ponds. We can place erosion control materials (ie. rip rap) on creek banks or shorelines.
